 Silverbirch Sweater

Designed by Rachel Brockman

This pattern is available thanks to Knitty. The pattern is available at this link.

Snuggle up all winter in the Silver Birch cardigan. This lofty piece marries a wrap and a sweater, hugging your shoulders and ensuring you will feel cozy whenever you wear it. The design was inspired by the textures of a forest – a maze of beautiful trees in various shapes and sizes, symbolized through the many cable motifs that decorate the sweater. The silvery white, textured, peeling bark of birch trees served as inspiration for the collar in which a luxurious eyelash yarn gives a frayed appearance.

20-st Front Panel (XS-1X) measures 7.25 inches/18.5 cm wide, using larger needles and Yarn A only
9 sts/15 rows = 4 inches/10 cm in Moss Stitch, using larger needles with one strand each of colors A and B held together
11 sts/16 rows = 4 inches/10 cm in Moss Stitch with smaller needles, using color A only

PATTERN NOTES

This cardigan is worked flat in pieces and seamed. The body is comprised of three rectangles, each worked from the bottom up. The front pieces wrap around the back of the work and are joined at the center back using the three-needle bind off.

When working the Fronts, a single strand of color B is held together with Yarn A for half of the panel, then dropped and the remainder of the panel is worked with a single strand of Yarn A. This creates a fluffy, frayed-like collar.

When placing markers to mark armhole/shoulder placement, ensure that the RS of the work is facing.
