Knitting is more fun when you mix fibers – wouldn’t you agree? The Mixed Media hats pair soft, fluffy Essentials Super Kid Mohair Loves Silk with our fresh and fabulous Uni Merino. Vertical garter stitch stripes create a faux-rib brim on this hat, and horizontal stripes and eyelets make up the rest. It’s a carefree collage of color and fiber, and when your knitting is finished, you’ll have two fun hats. A Mixed Media Hat for you, and perhaps one for someone you love!

Universal Yarn Uni Merino (75% superwash merino wool, 25% nylon; 100g/437 yds)
• 125 Sea Glass (A1) – 1 skein
• 145 Lipstick (B1) – 1 skein
Rico Design Essentials Super Kid Mohair Loves Silk (70% mohair, 30% silk; 25g/218 yds)
• 006 Aqua (A2) – 2 balls
• 018 Melon (B2) – 2 balls
Needle: US Size 2 (2.75 mm) straight (or your preferred needle for knitting flat or size needed to obtain gauge
US Size 3 (2.75 mm) 16” circular and set of DPNs (or your preferred needle for knitting small circumferences) or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch markers, one unique stitch marker to denote BOR, smooth waste yarn for provisional cast-on, crochet hook

24 sts x 48 rnds = 4” in garter stitch with smaller ndl after blocking
24 sts x 32 rnds = 4” in Stockinette stitch (St st) with larger ndl after blocking

PATTERN NOTES
These hats begin with a crochet provisional cast-on and a brim that is knit flat in garter stitch stripes. After the brim is completed, the ends are grafted together. Then, stitches are picked up from around the edge of the brim (taking care to pick up from the edge where you changed colors). The remainder of the hat is knit in the round. It features a stripe and eyelet pattern throughout.

In this pattern, hold a strand each of A1 and A2 together as one strand throughout; this will be referred to as color A. Hold a strand of B1 and B2 together as one strand throughout; this will be referred to as color B.

When changing colors in this pattern, do not break yarn for every stripe. Instead, carry the unused color along the inside of the work, twisting the strands of yarn around one another at color changes to prevent holes in your work.
