Checkmate Mitts

Checkmate Mitts
Designed by Rachel Brockman

If you think that fingerless mitts are too complex for a first or second project – think again! The Checkmate Mitts feature no shaping at all. Just whip up two rectangles, fold in half, sew the edge, leaving room for the thumbholes and ta-da – your first pair of mitts! This accessory works up easily in just a couple of hours. The project will allow you to practice stripes and mattress stitch. After you finish these, you probably won’t be able to resist their companion, the Checkmate Shawl!

PATTERN NOTES
These mitts are knit flat from the bottom up. First, a cuff is knit in garter stitch using color A. Then, colors A and B are alternated throughout the hand section before changing back to color A for the hem. When working in the stripes during the Hand section, do not break yarn at the end of each stripe. Instead, carry the yarn up the inside of the work and twist the strands of yarn around one another every color change to prevent holes.

The Checkmate Mitts are available as part of e-book Joyful Stitches, and as an individual pattern through Ravelry.
